Bore blade entry holes in the waste areas and begin cutting, working from the inside toward the outer edges. As you finish cutting, you should have two pieces: the hawk, and the puzzle-like perch that the hawk fits into. Remove the pattern and sand both pieces as necessary. Stain the perch piece with a dark stain and allow to dry. Use a small amount of glueto join these pieces back together. Cut a rectangular block to measure 2-1/4" x 7" tor the base. Use the router with a decorative bit to shape all four sides of the base and then sand as necessary. Stain this piece with the same stain you used for the upright and allow to dry. Glue the red tailed hawk to the base. Finish as desired. ££ |
