SUPPLIES

Wood: hardwood of choice—one piece 1/2" x 2-1/2" x 9" (for the base); one piece 1/2" x 3" x 7" (for the upright) Tools: scroll saw with assorted blades; drill with bits

including a 1-3/8"-Dia. Forstner bit and a counter sink Temporary-bond spray adhesive Sandpaper, assorted grits Wood glue

Craft knife or small file Two No. 6 x 3/4" wood screws Finish of choice One 1-7/16"-Dia. clock insert

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut your pieces to size and sand smooth. Tip: I find it easier to do most of the sanding on the piece before all of the interior cuts have been made; the finish sanding can then be done after the piece is sawn. Copy the pattern and attach it to your wood using spray adhesive. Use a Forstner bit to bore the hole which will receive the clock movement. Bore blade entry holes in the waste areas and make all interior cuts, then saw around the outside of the pattern. Remove the pattern paper, do the final sanding, and clean up the piece as necessary with a craft knife or small file.

Center the upright on the base, then bore and countersink the screw holes. Locate the holes so that they are about 1" in from each edge of the upright. Glue and screw the base to the upright, apply finish of choice, and insert the clock movement.
