Creative Woodworks & crafts 2002-01, страница 8From the Editor's Desk JKe&p an scrolling This is the first issue of Creative Woodworks & Crafts since the evil attack which devastated the World Trade Center, crippled (he Pentagon building, and killed nearly 7,000 people. This issue went on sale November 13, 2001, but as I write the editorial, it is barely three weeks after the attack. It is difficult to anticipate where we will be as a nation when this magazine hits the newsstand but it is still very easy to visualize the horrors which we all witnessed on September 11 th. We can never forget the tragic loss of life, or the astounding courage of the police and firemen, as well as the heroes who prevented the fourth plane from reaching its target Most importantly we can never allow our resolve to falter. We must do whatever it takes to rid the world of the monsters who threaten our civilization. At this moment, it doesn't appear (hat our resolve is going to falter any time soon. Indeed, in the wake of this tragedy, Americans (and the rest of the civilized world) arc pulling together in ways that 1 never thought I'd see in my lifetime. There are American flags everywhere and patriotism is currently on the rise. As citizens, wc arc each anxious to pitch ill and do our part. 1 have also noticed a renewed creative energy in our country. Many people have responded to this adversity, in part, by doing such things as composing songs, writing poetry and drawing pictures. These simple expressions may seem trivial when compared to the dangerous work that has already been done and is still left to do, but on a very real level, self expression is a powerful weapon to oppose the totalitarian forces arrayed against us. What better way to demonstrate the terrorists' failure than by enjoying the very lirccdoms which they seek to deprive us of. Many readers have called or e-mailed asking for patriotic patterns to cut out. One scroller from Pennsylvania is making a version of Rick T.ongabaugh's liagle Heritage Plaque from our April, 2001 issue and intends to send il to the New York City l'ire Department. If you go to our website (www.woodworksanderalls.com) wc have posted a free pattern which you can make to demonstrate your pride and resolve. In future issues, starting with the next, we will have several more patriotic patterns for you to make. President Bush has asked for our patience, and that we go about business as usual, I say amen to that, and to the readers of Creative Woodworks & Crafts 1 would add. keep on scrolling! It's the least wc can do. Until next time, all the best and happy woodcraliing. (Sod bless America ! The Eagle Heritage plaque from our April, 2001 issue. tit:tr CO MTNG NEXT ISS UE!
