Creative Woodworks & crafts 2002-06, страница 8m Wtt From the Editor's DeskWell, it's happened again. At the last minute, as we were looking over the page layouts for this issue, we realized that we just didn't have exactly the right project for the cover. That meant selecting a new-project, making it, photographing it, etc., as well as fitting it into an issue that had already been laid out. Of course Ihe easiest way to accomplish this was to rcplace one of the existing projects with the new one. It's always difficult to switch projects at the eleventh hour, but we managed somehow, thanks in no small part to the enormous talenls of pattern designer Dan Fenelon and scroll sawyer Wcs Demarest. Dan's terrific project, The 210, can be found on page 26 of this issue. Since this was a last-minute addition, ii was necessary to postpone publication of one of the projects originally slated to appear. Because of a similarity in size, both of the pattern (hence available Pattern Section space) and length of the text (hence available magazine space), a project from Liz of Carolina Scrollworks was bumped into a future issue. Notwithstanding, Liz did have a time-sensitive announcement included with her project about a causc close to her heart. Since Ihe rescheduled appearance of her project would be too late, we thought il best to print her announcement here in Liz's own words. "My best friend, Lisa, was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a chronic, often disabling disease of Ihe central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild such as numbness in Ihe limbs, or severe such as paralysis or loss of vision. A person with MS does not know when it will strike, what symptoms they will have, when it will get worse (or better), or if they will become permanently disabled. But there is one thing people with MS can count on, the National Multiple Sclcrosis Society (NMSS). The NMSS is sponsoring THE MS CHALLENGE WAI.K, a 50 mile walk which will last for three days, June 21-23,2002. "I have made the commitment lo walk and am hoping readers of Creative Woodworks Crafts can help by sponsoring me. My goal is to raise $3,000. Please help me reach that goal by making a contribution to the NMSS. Any amount will be appreciated and will really make a difference to those who are fighting this terrible disease. I will walk for my friend, her daughter, and the hundreds of thousands of others who are affected each day by Multiple Sclerosis. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you all know how I did!" Liz can be reached via e-mail at liz@carolinascrollvvorks.com. More information about THE MS CHALLENGE WALK can be obtained by visiting their website, www.mschallenge.org. Until next time, all the best and happy woodcrafting! Liz Starnes -c^/ftOX?
