Introduction

This project is fairly intricate, so you will want to take your time. Also, consider taking some extra precautions to prevent delicate pieces from breaking off. If the opening through your scroll saw table is fairly large, poke a hole through a playing card or business card, thread the

scroll saw blade through it and tape it over the table opening. It will provide extra support around the blade. Also, while sawing, you can reinsert and tape cutout pieces back into the openings next to fragile areas.

INSTRUCTIONS

Adhere the patterns to the wood with spray adhesive. Bore blade entry holes and make all cuts beginning with the interior and working toward the perimeter. Note: for the base, tilt your saw approximately 15 degrees to produce a beveled edge along the contour of the base. You will need to center the pattern on your wood because the bottom of the base will be larger than the top when sawing is completed. Also, to avoid breakage, drill or saw the hole for the clock insert before cutting the perimeter.

Remove patterns and touch up any imperfections with needle files, sandpaper, etc. Check the clock insert fit and adjust as needed. Note: you want to do this prior to gluing the sections together.

To prevent splitting, pre-drill pilot holes for the two screws where indicated on the base pattern. Secure the upright to the base with glue and the wood screws. Allow glue to dry. Apply finish of choice (we used Watco natural Danish oil), insert clock movement, and enjoy!

This project would also look great if the flowers, stems and leaves were painted or stained.
