CHRISTMAS TREE PUZZL!

by Barbara G. McKee

INSTRUCTIONS

Copy the pattern and transfer the outline and interlocking puzzle lines to the selected stock. Cut around the perimeter then separate the five puzzle pieces. Sand all surfaces with 100 then 150 grit abrasive paper. Remove the sanding dust with a tack cloth.

Paint all surfaces of the four tree pieces, except for the front face surfaces of the puzzle knobs (these will be the large tree ornaments) with Dark Green. Paint the star Yellow, continuing the color around the edges and onto the back. Let the paint dry.

Sand the pieces lightly to remove the "fuzz" raised by the paints. Remove the sanding dust with a tack cloth. Touch up the paint as necessary. Sponge paint the front of the tree pieces with Green (be sure to leave some of the Dark Green showing through). Let the point dry. Next, sponge paint the front of the tree pieces with Yellow-Green (be sure to leave some of the previous colors showing through). Let the paint dry.

Transfer the placement for the small ornaments onto the pieces. Paint the front of the puzzle knobs Yellow. Paint the Yellow dots for the chains using a small paintbrush handle. Paint the small ornaments Yellow using the eraser end of a pencil. Let the paint dry. About the designer

Even as a child, Barbara McKee loved to craft. Her father was a carpenter who shared with his daughter his time, talent and a love of making things. As she always enjoyed crafting, designing projects, and working with wood, Barbara found the perfect medium for expressing her creativity in the scroll saw. She has written a book to share her love and knowledge of scroll sawing, and hopes that it will encourage others to share her passion.

Barbara and her husband, Ed, are life-long residents of western New York. They live in the town of Amherst a suburb of Buffalo. They have been married for thirty-six years and have three married children. At last count, they have eight wonderful grandchildren.
