Spirit" Houseboat

pattern by Jeff Zaffino, cut by Mike Nabal

Introduction

As an exhibiting artist offering custom work, I really enjoy when a customer requests a custom piece that will challenge every uspeel of ttie way I approach c piece. From the design work to the actual culting, "Spiiit" turned out to be one cf those pieces. One cf my customers wanted to present o custom cutting to her dad of his houseboat, "Spiril." Easy enough, right? Wrong! We started with a few pictures of fhe Spirit moored al I tie dock, ttie only pictures available to my customer without alerting her dad of our plan. But we wanted to show the Spirit underway, not mooted. We ended up with about four different pictures of four different boots, taken on four different bodies ot wafer! My challenge was to pieco all of them together into one boat that would very closely resemble the house boat rriy customer's dad absolutely loved. It took lots of effort on both of our par Is, bul I think we were finally able to come up with something close. Sara, I hope your father erjoys this cutting as much as I enjoyed tho challenge of designing it.

At tho risk of running off lopic for c moment, I would be remiss if I didn't offer a hecrty "Thank You" tc Mike Nabal
