/vcryone is familiar with some variation of the following wisdom: "The more you learn, the more ihere is to learn." It's probably very close 10 a universal truth. Certainly, it's true of Greene & Greene furniture - the influences, details and construction hold many secrets.

The title of thisanicle is "borrowed" from the Gamble house where, since March 2007. there arc monthly "Detailsaixl Joinery Tours." The lucky few on these tours get a chance to sec inside (and under and behind) some of the furniture in that wonderful house. The experience is a revelation. And it raises more questions than it answers.

This article is the second in a three-part series on Greene & Greene design. In the first article we gave a broad overview ofthe style withemphasisonitscvoluiion. Inthissecond installment, we emphasize details and design elements of the furniture. The final article will demonstrate the Greene & Greene touch applied to cabinet ry and doors, making utilitarian objects beautiful.
