I'd like lo buiid a campaign chesl. but I don"i know where lo get the special hardware that's required. Is there a mail-order outfit that sells it?

Craig Hassan. Baltimore. Md.

The Wise Company. 6503 St. Claude Avenue. P.O Box IIS. Arabi. LA 70032; tel. (504) 277-7551. carries a variety of campaign hardware. Write or call for a copy of their latest catalog.

I built "The $30 Workbench" featured in your January/February 1993 issue, although I made a few changes. I added an 8 in. wide tool well along the back. Also, in addition to the front vise you show. 1 installed an end vise. Several holes were bored to accept Black & Decker bench dogs. To spruce up the project, 1 added solid oak edging ail around the benchtop and also to the front and back of the pedestals.

The MDF floor underlayment I used cost only S8.30 for a 4 ft. by 8 ft. sheet.

so the basic bench was built for well under your S30 estimate. The two 9 in. vises sold for $39 each.

I'm real happy with my new top-notch bench—it's as good as they come. By the way. I built it for my 80th birthday.

Your safety is important to

US ... We strive to present our plans and techniques as accurately and safely as possible, and we try to point out specific areas and procedures where extra caution is required. But because ot the variability of local conditions, construction materials and personal skills, we can't warn you against all potential hazards. Remember to exercise common sense ;uid use safety measures when operating woodworking power equipment. Don't attempt any procedures you're not comfortable with or properly equipped for. Sometimes, for the sake of clarity, it's necessary for a photo or illustration to show power toots without the blade guard in place. In actual operation, though, you should always use blade guards and other safety devices on power loo Is that arc equipped with them. Remember... an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.
