Cherry is in both Ric Allison's "Lipstick Chair" at left and Michael Brolly's "Altar Chair" at right. David Ebner's "Brookhaven Chair," above left, is figured mahogany, and Donald Moss's "Christmas Tree Chair" (above, right) includes reclaimed spruce, fir and balsam.

From 68 entries of side chairs made mainly of wood, 10 were selected — on the basis of creativity, craftsmanship and functionality — to be part of the exhibition. Among those wood selections were the choices for Donald Moss's "Christmas Tree Chair": the fir, balsam and spruce came from discarded Christmas trees. "Chairs," said Eisenhower, "are the ultimate challenge." j
