During the fast two years, I've had the good fortune of attending a few of the scroll saw picnics that have become so popular lately. These wonderful events bring scroll saw enthusiasts together for a day (or two) of fellowship and fun. The first of these picnics is the one held by Dale Whisler in Stevens, Pennsylvania. The staff of Creative Woodworks arid Crafts was there, and beginning on page 6 we present a feature article with lots of photos from this annual event.

Along with the feature on Dale's picnic, Associate Editor Barbara d. Martin reports on a barbecue held the day before at our office in Sussex County, New Jersey, to honor the many talented people who have contributed to this magazine's success. Barbara is the newest member . of our staff, and in the year she's been here, she has made quite a contribution to the quality of this publication. Her article also has an announcement about the Creative Woodworks and Crafts Tenth Anniversary Woodcrafting Festival to be held August 21 -23, 1998 to help show our appreciation to the most important members of our publishing family—you!

For me, one of the highlights of the picnics is meeting the many talented crafters in attendance and seeing their creations. Frankly, I'm very impressed with the quality and originality of the work I've seen. So many artisans seem to take a design, either from \ Creative Woodworks and Crafts or ore of various other sources, and add a little something of themselves to it—producing items which are unique and beautiful.

What I've observed is that a lot of craftspeople seem to view our Full i Size Pattern Section merely as a point of beginning for their own imagination. Many enlarge or reduce patterns to suit their needs, others adapt or customize a design into a project that is entirely their own. It's rewarding to see that so many of the projects presented in Creative Woodworks and Crafts are inspiring so many crafters. With all that creativity out there, we can look forward to quite a few new designs and designers in this and upcoming issues.

Until next time, all the best and happy woodcrafting!
