Fig. 1. After drilling a test hole in scrap wood, drill the hole to accept the glass eye. pieces, cut slots in Ihe ends of six 1/4" x 1/4" x 6" pieces of wood. Epoxy an X-acto blade in each slot. Next, stick a blade into the back of each piece to be painted to get a good handle on it. A 12" or longer piece of 4 x 4 stock with holes drilled in it makes a good drying stand (see Fig. 6). Before you begin to paint, apply masking tape to all glue joint edges so that you don't get any painl on them, thus insuring a good bond. Don't forget to mask off the portion of the body and pectoral fin where they will be glued together as well. Spray a coat of White on all pieces. If necessary, add a second coat, sanding lightly with 320 grit sandpaper between coats. When dry, shake the Pearl White thoroughly, thin slightly with distilled water, then spray on two coats. Spray the edges of the fins and the upper half of the body with Lemon Yellow, as shown in Fig. 7. Refer lo the project photo for suggested color shading. Next, lightly shade the edges of the fins, except for the pelvic fins, the gill cover, and the back of the fish with Black (see Fig. 8). When dry, shake Fig. 2.
