by Barbara d. Martin Meanwhile, back at the barn... About five years ago, Editor George Ahlers first began his stint at Creative Woodworks and Crafts as a contributing editor. He used to meet with now Editorial Director Robert Becker in George's workshop/garage. One story they both like to recall goes something [ike this. One evening, sitting in the garage discussing their ideas about the direction of the magazine, they had a vision. A meeting of the minds would take place with all of Creative Woodworks and Crafts' designers, who are considered to be not only tantamount to the success of the magazine but part of the family as well, along with all of the advertisers who have made much of our success possible. Together. In one place. Jerry Cohen, dream maker This year, thanks to Jerry Cohen, Publisher of Creative Woodworks and Crafts, that dream came true. On August 19, about sixty of this magazine's favorite people came together for an afternoon of food, entertainment, and conversation. The first ever Creative Woodworks and Crafts Barbecue sported a gallery featuring projects from upcoming issues, music by Robert Becker's Miner Street Band, inspiring speeches, amazing card tricks from Roland Perry of AMI, and laughter emanating from every corner. There was Dirk and Karen Boelman from The Art Factory sharing ideas with Marilyn Carmin and Debbie Smith from Heartland Creations. There was Scott Kochendorfer Jerry Cohen, publisher of Creative Woodworks and Cmfts, thanks the many people who have March,1998 made this magazine possible. 7 Associate Editor Barbara A.
