INSTRUCTIONS

Make the wishing well

The wood used is 1 x 8 red oak. Rip this down to 3/4" strips and work with this size to build the well side pieces, uprights, and roof truss system. The rough out length of wood needed is about 24 feet of 3/4" x 3/4" strips.

Cut the well side pieces to a length of 4" on a miter saw, set at 22-1/2 degrees. Pin nail the eight pieces which make up each ring together. Once all six rings are assembled, pin nail them, one on top of the other, alternating the orientation of each ring by one half turn.

When this assembly is complete, add the center uprights, which are 15" long, to the inside of the base (see the Assembly Drawing). Miter cut four pieces at 45 degrees for the rafters. The tie-ins for the roof are 8-1/4" long. Make three of these.

Make the decorative panels

Cut the pieces to size. Make two roof and two end panels from the 1/4" thick material. Bevel the top edges of the roof

panels 45 degrees to form the roof peak as shown in the Full Size Pattern.

On the end panels, locate and bore three pilot holes for wood screws to attach end panels to roof structure. Countersink for screw heads.

Measure and cut two Plexiglas panels to fit inside the top of the roof structure. Measure your project and adapt dimensions to fit what you have. Cut two triangular shaped pieces of Plexiglas to fit inside the end pieces of the roof structure. For a more precise fit, lay the structure on top of your Plexiglas, then trace the inside edges of the ends of the roof structure onto the Plexiglas and cut to fit.

Final assembly

Begin making the roof truss system by referring to the Assembly Drawing. Attach the roof panels. Test fit the roof peak and adjust bevels as needed. Attach with glue and brads.

Make the rafter and cross piece braces from 3/4" thick material and glue them into position 1/8" below the surface to allow the Plexiglas to fit snugly into the structure, flush with the surface. continued on page 54
