SAILING THE GLOBE

by Matthew Romack

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut the pattern

Attach the pattern to the wood using spray adhesive. Bore blade entry holes and make all cuts. Note: I found it best to cut in the following order. Begin with the ship details, continue on to the large globe, then the star areas, and finish up with the larger cuts around the

clouds and moon.

Remove the pattern and sand as necessary.

Paint the background

Place the cutout over the canvas board. With a pencil, lightly mark the spot where the sun peeks out from behind the front of the ship. Set the cutout aside. Paint a Yellow circle in this spot. Paint a larger circle of Crimson up to where the star field begins. Paint another concentric circle of Navy Blue and then Black up to the edge. Note: remember to rinse your paintbrush after each color use. With a small dab of water, blend together the areas of color transition. Allow to dry. Use straight color to darken areas where necessary. This process creates a variety of shades and provides background depth. You can repeat this process until you achieve the desired look.

When dry, place the cutout and canvas background in your frame. Hang and enjoy! ji
