INSTRUCTIONS

Make photocopies of lhe pattern pieces (thus saving the originals for future use). Adhere the patterns to the wood using spray adhesive. Note: if solid hardwood is used, cover the entire pattern with clear packing tape as this will heip prevent ihe blade from buffiiftgtbe stock while sawing.

Bore h;ade entry, holes in alt areas to be cut cut, including a small hole on or near the line to cut out the opening for the photo. Tints cutout should be saved as the backer for the photo and it also works well as a template toe tracing your photo to fit within the opening. Make ail interior cuts first, followed by the. entire outside contoured edges. ■ Remove patterns andsand as necessary.

Using an awf.mark center points for mounting screw locations as indicated on the pattern. Using the 5/32"-Dia. bit., bore holes for the No. 6 x 3/4" wood screws. Use a countersink bit on the rear of the back piece to set the screw heads flush with the rear surface.

Attach the shelves and brackets to the back piece as indicated on the pattern with wood glue snd screws. Carefully glue the overlay into position on top of the hack piece. This will create a rabbet, or lip, to hold the photo in place. Apply finish as desired Install photo, then insert backer behind photo and secure with clips, cleats, naiis, etc.

SUPPLIES

Wood: red oak—one piece 1/2" x 9-3/4" x 15" (for the back), two pieces 1/2" x 2-1/2" x 5" (for the shelves), two pieces 1/2" x 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" (for the brackets); aspen or contrasting wood of choice—one piece 1/4" x 5" x 6" (for the overlay) Tools: scroll saw with assorted blades; drill with bits including a 5/32"-Dia. bit and a countersink bit; awl Temporary-bond spray adhesive Sandpaper, assorted grits Clear packing tape (optional) Six No. 6 x 3/4" wood screws Wood glue Finish of choice Clips, cleats or nails
