Apply.carpenter's glue to the backer and hold in place with C-clamps, protecting the surface with scraps of plywood (see Fig. 19J. When-dry, remove the clamps and bore a 3/l6"-Dia. hole in the center of the eye and through the backer, if the glass eye gets wedged in the hole it can be pushed out from the back.

Finishing

Before: applying the finish, put small pieces of masking tape on the pectoral fin and body where they join. After spraying several coats of finish on the project, remove "the tape and attach the hanger. Glue the pectoral fin and glass eye in place with 5-rninute epoxy. Note: the pupil of a fish eye is not round, the narrow end should point toward Hie nose, -j-j . .

Gluing

Place wax paper on a flat surface. Edge glue the body segments together with slow set epoxy. Slow set will give you plenty of time to align the pieces, if: some should squeeze out it can be wiped off without leaving blotches when the finish is applied. Lightly clamp the: body together using the scraps we saved, from the top and bottom sections (see Fig. 78).

Attach the rest of the fins, except for the pectoral, fin, which will be glued after the finish is applied, with 5-rninute epoxy. After; removing the wax paper, scrape and sand the back to remove any residue left from the wax paper.

Lay the project on a piece of 1/4" plywood and trace its outline with a pencil. Cut slightly within the line at a 10 degree:angle toward the back side using a No. 3 blade.
