Cutting the top prcflfe

Cut the top profile first. Be ccreful to cut in from the side that doesn't have the side profile pattern on it so the kerf doesn't damage the pattern.

Cutting the side profile

Wrcp the block wilh pocking lope lo hold it logeliier and cut the side profile.

Finished tandte

Remove the finished handle and throw away the waste material. Remove the pattern from the bottom of the handle and glue it to the lid.

The finishing touch

You've got a number of options here. 1 chose an oil finish that can be sprayed with a gloss or satin finish if desired. I liked ihe con Iras I of I he nalural color of the oiled plywood againsl the pens and pencil. Anolhet option is to point the surface end cavity. Still another that I'm going to ploy around with is flocking. The surface and ccvity would be painted with an adhesive matching the flocking fibers. Then the fibers would be dusted on ond adhere when the adhesive dries. I coks easy—watch for some projects in the near future using it!

Boxes for other pen and pencil styles

If you want to make the boxes for other pen and pencil styles, cut the pen and pencil outlines out of a copy of ttie paltern. Pul Ihot in a copier, and cover the hole in the paltern with a blank piece of paper. That will give you a box pallern wilhcul Ihe pen end pencil outlines. Loy ttie pen end pencil you want inside the box pattern ond trace them to get the new outlines you went.

You con also alter the pattern to fit any object you wish to make o box for. Use copies of the pattern labeled "extra length" to cut ond splice the box patterns to get any size needed. Make sure the stack of plywood is one layer higher then the object. The last layer is Hie frame and lid alignment piece.
