Sharpening

No mess, no jigs, just quick, accurate, sharp results.

I hate to sharpen my tools! I love working with sharp chisels and planes, but I've never enjoyed keeping them that way. Part of this animosity may have started when I was a teenager learning to sharpen on a dished-out oilstone in my dad's shop. I learned, but in my woodworking soul I related sharpening to a frustrating, messy and ultimately disappointing process.

It's been30 years since that time, and I've talked to a lot of woodworkers who have a more positive and almost religious approach to sharpening. Each has shared with me their expertise, their jigs, new sharpening stones and machine technology. And yes, sharpening has become a more palatable process for me. But I still didn't want to do it - until now.

When I was introduced to the Work Sharp WS3000, I was honestly expecting another sharpening machine that, well, sharpened. But I was j aded enough that I didn't expect to find anything that would make me "want" to sharpen. It took about two minutes of listening to how the machine worked to make it sound good. But because my skepti

cism was so well honed (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun), I immediately set about trying to find out what the catch was to this "too easy" sounding process. I still haven't found it, so let me share this exciting tool with you.
