My shop is in a garage space and is inherently damp and I have had the unpleasant experience of finding rust on some of my fine hand tools and tables of my power tools. I have found that laundry rust stain remover, available in most grocery and hardware stores, is extremely effective in removing the rust without damaging the metal surfaces below. Apply generously to the affected area with a soft cioth and wipe the rust away. Follow with a damp cloth to remove the chemical and finish with a good paste wax or liquid car wax. The rust stain remover is made by Whink Products Co. Eldora, LA 50627 and contains a dilute hydrofluoric acid. Plastic or rubber gloves are recommended. 1 use a liquid car wax by Turtle Wax Inc., Chicago, 1L 60638 to finish the metal surfaces.

Editor's Note: In our March/April 1984 issue we featured plans for a Shaker Wall Clock. Recently, several readers have written to tell us that the quartz movement is no longer available from Klockit, the mail order company we listed as a source of supply. We learned from Klockit that they ran out of stock and can't get any more from their manufacturer.

A suitable substitute is available from Craft Products Co., 2200 Dean Street, St. Charles, IL 60174. Order part no. 2308 F44. This movement has an adjustable pendulum, which means you must cut it to length with a hack saw or wire cutter. For the Shaker clock, it should measure 24 in. from the centerline of the handshaft to the tip of the pendulum bob.

The hands are free: order part no, 2431 P44. These hands are not the same style as shown in our photo, but their design is compatible with a Shaker piece.

Area woodworkers in Midland, Michigan have joined to form the Midland Woodworkers Association. The association which is entering its second year meets monthly, collects dues, and mails out a quarterly newsletter.

The goals of the association are to promote all aspects of woodworking with an emphasis on communication and cooperation among woodworkers in such areas as techniques, material sources, literature, display of member work, and safety.
