Woodworker's Journal 2006-30-2, страница 80Tip: Always leave your air-filtration device (or ventilation fan) running for up to several hours after a heavy sanding session; it takes that long for dust inside even a medium-size shop to be filtered (or exhausted). Following are some suggestions for dust control strategies that are appropriate and proven effective for large-, medium- and small-sized shops; no single strategy is right for all three. Large Cabinet/Furniture Shop A big furniture or cabinet shop (650 sq. ft. plus) has a full complement of stationary machines and portable power tools. (See Drawing, page 69.) A large (3 HP plus) central dust collector gathers dust and chips from all stationary machines. A powerful shop vacuum collects chips from most portable power tools. A dust hood connected to a branch duct captures dust produced by portable power tools that don't have dust ports, as shown below. Most hand and power sanding is done atop a self-powered downdraft sanding table. A pair of air cleaners, mounted on opposite shop walls, encourage air circulation and remove One particles from shop air. In the larger shop, try collecting dust from portable tools with a local dust hood connected to a central collector. In a medium-size shop, using a portable collector and flexible hoses and fittings to gather dust from several machines is a great strategy. A vacuum hose station, connected to a branch duct, is used for chip collection at the drill press, as well as for general shop cleanup. Medium Garage-sized Shop A typical two-car. garage-sized shop equipped for a wide range of woodworking projects, with some stationary machines as well as benchtop machines and portable power tools. A portable dust collector gathers sawdust from stationary machines via a small system of flexible hoses and fittings, as shown above. Today's Shop continues on page 82...
