Amana's In-Tech Replaceable Router Bits get as much exercise picking up all those screws you drop but, hey, that's the price — $39.99 — you pay. Driving, cutting ... what else do you do with your tools? How about drilling? Ryobi has come out with a tool that I think could be called the "anti-stupid" drill. Somehow, that's not what their marketing department actually named the P814 Lithium-ion 18-volt AutoShift™ — but it's essentially what "AutoShift" means. If you're drilling along and start to go into a Ryobi's P814 AutoShift high torque application, the drill will automatically downshift its speed, then resume a higher speed when you're done. Yes, this $199 drill may actually be smarter than some people. Something else that may interest some of you — or, to judge from our mail, a lot of you — is an answer to the question of how to sharpen router bits. Amana Tool's latest answer: don't. Replace the knives instead. They've come out with In-Tech™ Replaceable Carbide Insert Knife Router Bits. The series includes nine profiles of router bits, which Amana claims will last four times longer than regular bits. Prices for the bits, made of a sub-micro grade of carbide, start at $16.88, while the cost for the replacement knives starts at $3.08. —Joanna Werch Takes J& FESTOOL BOB MABINO "Excellent customer service Is my highest priority."
