Michael Responds: Yep, that's exactly what you do. Personally, I would stain all the wood with the correct color stain to make the darker wood the color you want it. I'd then go back and re-stain the lighter areas with a darker stain to make them match. The second stain can be wiped on and off, just like the first, or you can creep up on the color using a tinted top coat, such as Varathane One-Step Stain and Poly in an aerosol can. Add as many sprayed coats as you need to match the color of the darker sections.

Blush Eraser reflows lacquer, allowing trapped moisture, like raindrops, to escape without changing the existing sheen or shade of color.

I have a beautiful pine dresser that was located by a window where the top got wet in the rain. Now there's a big water mark in the center. I don't want to damage the finish or refinish the entire top. How can I fix it?

Mike Thompson Merritt Island, Florida

Michael Responds: I'll give you two options. The easiest fix is to simply spray the white water mark with Jet Spray™ Blush Eraser, sold in aerosol cans at woodworking specialty stores. Another method is to wipe the area with a cloth dampened with denatured alcohol. Make it damp, not fully wet, or the alcohol could etch the finish. Damp means "about as wet as a healthy dog's nose." Then, add a coat of paste wax to restore the sheen and help protect the top from water _ in the future. /
