While the primer is drying, mix the Ceramcoat colors. For both the Cape Cod and Midnight Blue use this formula: 2 parts color to 1 part Pearl Luster Medium, then dilute this mixture with an equal amount of water. Pour the paint through a fine screen airbrush strainer. Shake the paint well before spraying. Apply Cape Cod on the shark, from the top down, leaving the belly white as shown in Fig. 17. Spray two light coats, waiting 30 to 45 minutes between coats. Holding a hair dryer about 18" away until the gloss flattens will really speed things up. Spray Midnight Blue on the top third of the body, shading lighter as you reach the middle (see Fig. 18). Lightly spray the front edge of the tail as well. Cut loose masks to hold around the fins to prevent spraying Midnight Blue on the lower portion of the body as shown in Fig. 19. Lightweight cardboard works well. Brush White paint on the teeth. After the paint dries, glue the teeth in place, followed by the backer board. Spray several coats of gloss varnish on the entire project. The varnish may be thinned with a few drops of water if desired. Glue the eye in place with 5-minute epoxy, add a hanger, and don't go swimming in this ocean! | |
