INSTRUCTIONS

A word from the designer

We have had several people say that they are new to scroll sawing and ask for patterns which are easy to saw. This shelf pattern is similar to designs that I cut when I was just eight years old.

The design is great for beginners because it is quick to make. This also makes a great choice for crafters looking for designs to feature at their next craft show. The design could be enlarged to make a larger shelf and may be made using 1/2" stock.

Make the shelf

Attach pattern to wood using spray adhesive and bore blade entry holes. Begin cutting with the outside edges, then complete all inside cuts and sand as needed.

Glue the shelf brace to the bottom of the shelf. Be sure to center the brace on the shelf and square it with the back edge of the shelf. Once glue is dry, sand the back edge of the shelf and brace with the belt sander. Note: turn the piece upside down on the sanding table.

Apply glue to the back edge of the shelf and brace. Carefully position this assembly on the backer and allow to dry. Once the glue has set, apply finish of choice according to the manufacturer's instructions.

A set of six patterns (including the one featured here) is available from RussWood Designs for $15.00, or $3.50 each (add $1.00 per pattern for shipping and handling). Contact RussWood Designs, 722 G. Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, IA 52405; (319) 365-8794.
