I do, however, remove chips and dust in sufficient quantities to render detail that bears a strong resemblance to something we are trying to sell. Secondly, you do not have to spend several months' salary on carving tools to get started. My first attempts at carving were with two knives, a hatchet, and four wood chisels. When I began understanding facial proportions, I spent $18 on the six piece set shown. A number of years later, I bought a used Dremel Moto-Tool Kit from a friend. Though i have never regretted buying that tool, it has taken a beating over the years and growls when I apply pressure to it. For this article I decided to give my Dremel a rest and use the Foredom tool to do some of the "heavy" carving. As soon as I pay off my last shipment of exotic wood, I hope to have the finances to buy it, even though is a bit pricey and fairly specialized. We have some ideas on its use along with a scroll saw that should create a bit of interest plus a profit. My first requirement in considering a new tool is that it has to pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time, and this one will.
