around the outside of the letters, leave some wood connected on the right side to support the words as shown in Fig. 8. Carefully cut the waste material from the ends of the words (see Fig. 9), then cut the waste from the figures. Note: although I didn't use one on mine, it would be a good idea to use a zero clearance table top on your saw to support the delicate lettering when making these last cuts.

Place the silhouette on the Plexiglas and trace a cut line as shown in Fig. 10. Cut out the Plexiglas.

Glue the two 1/4"-Dia. x 1/2" long dowels into the holes at the bottom of the silhouette with thick CA glue (see Fig. 11)—carpenter's glue could also be used here.

Carefully press the silhouette into the frame, make sure it is in straight, and apply a few drops of thin CA glue around the joint as shown in Fig. 12.

Finishing

Brush on Danish oil or spray on the finish of your choice and let dry.

Apply a little bit of thin CA glue to the back of the silhouette as shown in Fig. 13. Be sure to put a drop of glue on the end of each word so that they will be held to the Plexiglas for support. Insert the Plexiglas and press it in place against a hard, flat surface until the glue sets.

Push the socket out of the rubber retainer collar. Feed the socket and cord through the hole in the base from the bottom, then press the retainer collar in place as shown in Fig. 14. Press the socket into the collar (see Fig. 15). To finish, screw in a bulb and glue the silhouette to the base as shown in Fig. 16. Happy Holidays from Bob and Kathy Hlavacek! jj-j
