PRESIDENT Jerry Cohen SECRETARY living Spielberg A New Beginning Since December 1996, Creative Woodworks & Crafts has included a Carving Section in every issue. Although generally well received, the Carving Section has not been without ils detractors. The critics have basically belonged to two camps, the most vocal being woodworking purists who wanted to do away with it altogether and include more woodcrafts projects. The other were carvers who wanted to greatly expand the Carving Section and reduce the amount of other projects clearly not a choice we were willing to make. For a while now we have tried to reconcile these diverse groups, but eventually something had to give. Usually when you try to please everyone, you wind up alienating everyone, but in this case a decision was reached which, 1 believe, actually will please everybody. In January of 2003, All American Crafts Publishing, Inc. will launch a new title, Carving Magazine'. With Mamie Whillock at the helm, this exciting new venture promises to be exactly what the carving enthusiast is looking for. . Mamie has a lot of great ideas, possesses a great deal of expertise, and has quite a few connections in the industry—a winning combination for any editor. Carving Magazine is on track to become a leader in its genre. What does this mean to Creative Woodworks <£ Crafts' readers? By spinning the Carving Section into its own magazine, we will have more space for the kinds of projects you have been asking for. You can look forward to more projects aimed at the artisan who makes pieces to sell at craft shows and other venues, more projects incorporating traditional joinery, and yes, more scrolling. We wish this new publication all the luck in the world! I know it will be a great success. Until next time all the best and happy woodcrafting! .
