and both sides. Although drawer bottoms should not be glued into their grooves, it's important that they fit without slop as otherwise they may rattle.

The various drawer construction methods discussed here are those that are in general use. Of course, there are situations where different methods must be used, such as when building tiny drawers for jewelry boxes where the use of strong joints is not necessary or practical. Also, in much contemporary work, which emphasizes joinery, box joints or through dovetails are cut so that they show on the drawer fronts (Fig. 9).

Drawer Installation

Drawers need some sort of support or guide to carry the weight of the drawer and help it to slide smoothly without twisting and jamming in the opening. The type of support and/or guide system used will depend to a great extent on the construction of the cabinet or case.

One method which both supports the weight of the drawers and guides them is the use of side hung guides as shown in Fig. 10 A and B. Cleats can be attached to the drawer sides and ride in dadoes routed in the case sides as shown in A, or the drawer sides can be grooved to ride on cleats screwed to the case sides as shown in B.

If method A is used, the drawer fronts must overlap the case sides as shown to conceal the dados. If the drawer front must fit flush within the case, method B is used, except that the clear is set hack from the front edees of
