Drawer stops must be fitted to prevent flush drawers from entering too far or hitting the back of the case. If the drawer back isn't grooved for the bottom, the usual method is to cut two small hardwood stops for each drawer and glue them toward each end of the front rail (Fig. 14 A). They should be thin enough to clear the drawer bottom and are located so the back side of the drawer front butts against them when the drawer is fully closed.

If the drawer back extends below the bottom, it will hit the stops unless notches are cut to clear them. An alternative, if there is enough room, is to mount the stops on the drawer frame close to, but not touching the back of the cabinet so that the drawer sides or back butt against them (Fig. 14 B),

Drawer Construction

The following sequence of operations will prove helpful in constructing well-fitted drawers. Even if two or more drawers are supposed to be exactly the same size, it's advisable (and usually necessary) that each drawer be built to fit a specific opening

1. Carefully measure the height and width of the opening as well as the distance from front to back. Do not allow the drawer to butt against the back of the case; it should be stopped at least Vi inch short of the back panel.

2. Cut all drawer parts to rough
