Special Techniques (Cont'd) Vi inch straight bit can be used for the cutting. Plywood template clamped to the panel serves as a guide for routing the shoulders of the raised portion. Before you begin shaping the arch and adjoining bevels, you will have to mark the bevel junction lines and then, on the panel's edge, a line that indicates the entire edge thickness of the panel's arch and sides. This edge thickness will equal the side and bottom edges. As a guide for carving, the bevel junction lines and edge thickness are marked. A vertical chisel cut establishes the depth of the bevel to be carved. To get those bevel junctions sharp at either side of the arch, you will have to use a straight chisel {carpenter's or carver's) and cut straight down into the wood to the depth of the slope from the edge of the shoulder to the line you drew around the edge.
