Shop Tips Looking for an inexpensive fence for my band saw, I bored holes for "J" bolts in a 3A x 1 x 18 in, long piece of straight stock, spacing the holes to span the width of my table. A few extra holes were added to allow the fence to be set at an angle for tapered cuts. Wing nuts make it easy to secure the fence in place. Marjorie Crick Soldiers Grove, Wis. Drawer knobs or handles look more balanced if set slightly above the cen-terline of the drawer front. This applies only to drawers that are normally below eye level. To save time when making multiple miter cuts, a common practice is to clamp a stop block to an auxiliary miter fence. However, mitered cuts often have "feathered" ends, which means they may not always make good contact against a simple stop block. This could cause some lengths to be slightly unequal. To avoid this, make a clamp block with one end cut at the same angle as the miter, then notch the block to allow clearance for the feathered end. Yosh Sugiyama Redding, Calif. Unless you have web clamps, stave-type construction can present clamping problems.
