INSTRUCTIONS

Transfer the patterns to the appropriate pieces of corian. Bore blade entry holes in the waste areas of the patterns. Next, bore the 5/16"-Dia. holes in the upper base piece and the 11/32"-Dia holes in the napkin weight as indicated on the patterns. Bore the holes for the salt and pepper shakers—the diameter of these holes will depend upon the size of your own shakers.

Cut out patterns for the napkin weight and upper base. Note: to minimize the amount of dust that forms along the edges of the corian while cutting, wrap the piece in clear packing tape before you cut. This will help lubricate the blade and allow for a smoother edge. Be sure to size the napkin area to correspond to the dimensions of your napkins (common paper napkins are generally about 6" square).

Saw the two knobs out of the square which was removed for the napkins. Bore 5/16"-Dia. holes in each knob to receive the steel rods. When boring these holes, drill only halfway through the material (approx. 1/4").

The lower base has no interior cuts, however it is slightly smaller than the upper base. Use the upper base pattern for this piece and saw around the perimeter only, keeping about 1/16" inside the line.

Remove any corian dust from the edges with sandpaper or a craft knife. Align the upper and lower bases. Apply numerous dots of glue to underside of the upper base, recheck alignment, and place carefully on the lower base. Weight down and allow to dry.

Using a metal cutting blade, cut the steel rods to the desired length. Note: keep your saw speed at a low rate and stop frequently to check your progress. Glue the rods into the upper base.

Round over the top and bottom edges of the knobs and sand until lustrous. Place the napkin weight over the rods, then glue the knobs in place.
