foot pivot points 5/8" deep with an 1/8"-Dia. drill bit. Hint: wrap a piece of masking tape around the drill bit to mark the depth.

With the 1/8"-Dia. drill bit, also drill blade entry holes as indicated on the patterns.

Make the interior cuts

Tilt your scroll saw table four degrees down on the left side. Using a No. 9 blade, begin cutting the rungs. Start at the center and cut clockwise until you reach the end of the spiral.

Level the table, cut out the oval, and remove it from the outer shape. Cut out the foot. Keeping the table level, saw out the interior heart design (see Fig. 2). Sand all of the sawn edges with 220 grit paper.

Rout the edges and countersink the pivot holes Using a 1/4" roundover bit, shape the front edge of the basket frame (see Fig. 3), the opening for the basket, and the exterior of the basket itself.

Countersink the basket and foot pivot holes to receive No. 6 x 5/8" flathead wood screws.

Assemble and finish

Attach the basket and foot to the outer frame with screws (see Fig. 4). Apply a penetrating oil finish to the assembled basket. To apply the oil evenly, select a pan large enough to lay the basket in and pour the oil into the pan. Soak the basket for 20 to 30 seconds. Continue the finishing process by following the manufacturer's instructions. |j
