SUPPLIES

Wood: butternut—one piece 1/4" x 6" x T (for the overlay); walnut—one piece 3/4" x 6': x 7" (for the clock body)

Make the interior cuts on the overlay piece first.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut wood to size and sand until smooth. Attach the pattern to the 1/4" thick overlay piece using spray adhesive, being sure to orient it going with the grain. Drill blade entry holes and begin cutting along the inside pattern lines using a No. 5 blade. Do not cut along the outside pattern lines at this time.

With the pattern still adhered to the wood, glue the overlay to the clock body piece using CA glue and

clamp together to dry (see Fig. 1). Once secure, remove the clamps and saw around the outside lines using a No. 12 blade. Bore the hole to accept the clock insert and round over the front and backs edges, being sure to avoid the legs and bottom here.

Lightly sand using 320, then 400 grit sandpaper, paying special attention to the sides and roundovers, then finish as desired and allow to dry. Insert the clock movement according to manufacturer's instructions and enjoy.
