Step 18. On the horizontal leg pattern there is a mark indicating where the bottom support for the back slat assembly will be located. Mark this point on one of the legs. _

Step T4. It's extremely important that the siat assembly be square too. There is a simple jig to help insure that it is, consisting of a piece of 3/4" x 24" x 26" scrap plywood to which I screwed two pieces of straight scrap wood to form a 90 degree angle._

Step 22. ...and a large screw from the inside.

Step 19. Use a framing square to transfer this mark to the other leg so that you can be sure the assembly will remain square. Screw the bottom support in place with 1-5/8" x No. 6 screws.

Step 15. Clamp the slats into the jig as shown. Be sure the curved ends are positioned correctly and the 5/8" spacers are in place between each slat. The front surfaces should be facing down. Draw a line 8-1/2" down from the top end of the center slat and extend it across the entire assembly with a framing square. Locate the center of the center slat and line it up with the center point of the top seat slat support to center it on the assembly._

Step 23. The arm rests should be made next. A 1" x 8" piece of material is needed for these two parts, but it is very expensive to purchase. <For example, the piece that I made my arm rests out of cost me $10.00 alone). You do have two other options, however. You could either plane a regular piece of 2" x 8" material to the required thickness, or you could glue a short piece of 5/4 decking material to the edge of a longer piece to get the width that you need. Care must be taken to get a good joint, however. Biscuits or dowels must be used for additional support and waterproof glue is mandatory. Cut the arm rests, round over all the edges on the top surface with the 1/4" roundover bit, and make location marks on the underside of each. The measurements are: 27" from the back of the arm and 1" over the inside edge. Be sure you make a left and a right arm rest!_

Step 26. The remaining seat slat should be attached now. Place a 5/8" spacer against the last seat slat and measure the remaining space to determine the exact width of the last seat slat. Leave a 1/4" space between the slat and the back seat assembly so that water can drain away. Mine measured 2-1/4". Attach it to the legs with screws._

Step 16. Screw the support in place with 1-1/4" x No. 6 screws, placing two screws in the intermediate and center slats and one screw in the outside slats. _

Step 17. Attach the bottom seat back support to the seat assembly by first removing it from the jig. Position the support in the center of the seat back assembly by again aligning the cen-terlines, and then clamping it into position as shown. This support is clamped to the back of the assembly just as the top was. Pre-drill and attach with 1-5/8" x No. 6 screws. This support should be on the same side as the upper one.

Step 21. Locate the centerline for the top of the vertical legs and the centerline for the arm rest supports and attach them with a small screw from the outside..._
