Grizzly

Step 1 - Apply a wash of Spice Brown, except on the face—the light areas of the face are the natural wood showing through. When dry, sand lightly with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. Use the following colored pencils on the bear: Burnt Ochre, Light Umber, Dark Umber, White, Black and Sienna Brown; as well as these paints: Spice Brown, Black, White and Bright Red.

Step 2 - Paint the nose Black, as well as under the nose, around edge of mouth, and around eyes with the No. 000 brush. The eyes are Spice Brown and the pupils are Black. Highlight the nose with White, and use White under the eyes and for the teeth. For the tongue, use White and Bright Red to make a dark pink. Step 3 - Using the traced hair lines as a guide, use the colored pencils to color in the body and arm (color the edges of bear cutout also). Use White pencil to show whitish tips of the hairs. Claws are grayish black. Note: if you get something darker than you want, use a little piece of 220 grit sandpaper to lighten or to show highlights.

Wolves

Use White paint as a wash coat. When dry, use 220 grit sandpaper to smooth. Use the same colors and techniques as you did with the bear. The white should show through.

Deer

Apply a wash coat on the deer similar to the bear, except where it is supposed to be white (see the main photograph). Use same colors as for the bear as well.

The grass cutout, as part of the deer, helps to blend the deer into the grass of the backer board. Lay the deer on the backer board grass and color to match.

Assembly

Referring to the Assembly Drawing (in the Pattern Section) and the photograph, attach the backer board to the inside of the frame. Glue the spacers and overlays in place onto the backer board. Hang your picture and enjoy. _n
