INSTRUCTIONS

Cutting and drilling

Transfer the patterns to the appropriate wood stock using the transfer paper and ballpoint pen (the pen allows you to see where you've traced).

With the wood grain running vertically, cut the fox and the stump. Using your scroll saw or the 1-3/8"-Dia. Forstner bit, bore a hole in the stump as indicated on the pattern to receive the clock movement. Cut the grass pattern next and sand all pieces as needed.

Cut both bases (A and B). Bore a 3/16"-Dia. hole to receive the dowel completely through base A. Sand and apply finish to both bases and allow to dry. Glue base A on top of base B, clamp, and allow to dry. Drill through the 3/16"-Dia. hole in base A 1/4" deep into base B. Glue the dowel into both bases (this adds strength to the base, allowing the stump and fox to be mounted securely).

Coloring

Referring to the photograph of the finished piece, follow the steps below to color your project. You may want to use the waste wood from the fox and stump as a surface for testing your colors.

Step 1. Basecoat the fox with Pumpkin, excluding the areas to be painted White. Note: thin the paint with water as you want this to be a wash coat; you should be able to see your traced lines through the color. When dry, lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper.

Step 2. Paint the White areas.

Step 3. Paint the Black areas, using the No. 000 brush around the eyes, nose, mouth and so on.

Step 4. Once the paint has dried, lightly shade and highlight the fox using the colored pencils (you can
