Run another bead of glue on tho back of the cross and place the Envirotex Lite pieco over it. Run still another bead of glue over the back of the frame and glue the back plate in place. Clamp the assembly and allow to dry. If the edges do not quite line up (it is difficult to exactly cut two separate pieces), use the 1" belt sander to gently sand the edges even. This should give you almost a seamless appearance between the back plate and the frame. Using the placement guideline on the base pattern, mark the placement of the drill holes and carefully drill the underside of the frame using the No. 2 bit and drilling to a depth of 1/2". Note: if you set your drill any deeper, you will come through the bottom of the frame and ruin your cross! Sand the base until smooth. Run the tack cloth over all surfaces and then varnish the frame and base. Apply two to three coats of varnish, allowing it to dry thoroughly in between applications. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, screw the frame to the base from the underside. Enjoy your beautiful candle holder! It's a clear, durable substance that protects and beautifies wood or almost any surface. Usually, just one coat is required. You've probably seen it as a clear protective coating on table, bar, or counter tops, and in many other applications. This beautiful Rose Swag, designed by Joan West, was featured in the August 2000 issue of Creative Woodworks & Crafts. It was made from wood and Envirotex, which was colored with easy-to-use dyes that we also sell (see below). This popular Corner Box, also designed by Joan, appeared in the June 2000 issue. It shows how clear Envirotex can be used with great effect to enhance your scroll saw projects.
