Creative Woodworks & Crafts Exclusive Patterns Presents

heat Lo cure, is non-toxic, and cleans up wiLh soap and water.

There seems to be nolhing that you can't create wiLh this substancc. It can be molded, turned, drilled and tapped, cut, sanded, carved, and nearly anything else you can think of to develop your creation. All that is required is to THOROUGHLY knead together parts A and B, and you will have approximately two hours of working time and 24 hours for it to completely cure (depending, of course, on the temperature in your workplace; the warmer it is the quicker it cures). A word of caution regarding the color—use latex or rubber gloves or be sure your hands are absolutely clean. I can testify that the least little bit of dirt will be transferred from the lines of your hands into the mix. Your colors may appear to be a little muddy, but your hands will be sparkling clean!

The pen pictured here was made by Axel, one of our grandsons, who incidentally had very clean hands upon completion of the project. Axel made his pen without a lathe. I used sandpaper to roughen the brass barrel of the pen for a better bond and he mixed and blended the epoxy, then wrapped it around the brass barrels after the pen was assembled. Once it hardened, we sanded it to shape with 120 grit sandpaper, finished up with gray Scotch Brite and polished with white Scotch Brite. We found that you can't apply a lot of pressure when using a twisting motion while sanding

or polishing as the bond between the epoxy and brass is easily broken. If this happens, however, just apply a little cyanoacrylatc glue to refasten it.

Alice doesn't care too much for the eyes in the Northern Wind ornament pictured here. I disagree. 1 think it adds a special touch that sets it apart from other ornaments. However, one of the secrets to our success is that we have always agreed on a final version of a project we offer for sale. We each start out with an idea of what something should look like and try several versions before we both settle on the end result. Believe me, this process has resulted in her dragging me kicking and screaming to my senses on more than one occasion. Not a pretty sight! In this case, I am only kicking a little. Too many people are watching for me to sLart screaming.

One thing Alice pointed out is that the colors are not as intense as some other kinds of polymer clay available to jewelers and crafters. A little intensity is lost due to the blending of the hardener which is not colored. I feel this is an acceptable tradeoff because heat is not required to set it and it is as I said before non-toxic. Aves Studio has a number of other products, all non-toxic and self-hardening, available to crafters, carvers, taxidermists and sculptors. Contact them for a current catalog or check out their very interesting web site.

Hope you had Happy Holidays, Wes & Alice
