Creative Woodworks & crafts 2005-04, страница 70My Antique Scroll Saw Collection fry i -p \ by Rick Hutehesor ^ I 3 CI I WO J photos by Wes Demarest Tn the previous issue of Creative Woodwork.x & Crtifis, from March, 2005. wc visited with Rick and looked at as many of his antique scroll saws as space would permit. In this issue, we will look at the balance of Rick's fascinating collection. This is perhaps the oldest saw in my collection. 1 bought if from a museum, but they couldn't supply me with any information. It appears to have been built in the late 1800s. Thc drive pulley appears to be sand cast from Babbitt metal, a lead alloy. The shaft bushing seems to be hand forged, ihe drive belt is a flat leather belt, and the blade clamps are handmade from thumbscrews and washers. The maker even used a mortis and tenon joint to secure the anil holster to the hasc. It has a unique drive system. The brace for the drive block appears to be part of a strap hinge, and brass strips were screwed into the lower am lor the drive rod. 10 • nrnrtivfi Wnnrtoorks & Crafts April 2005 |
