Gently remove the leaves from the block.

Cut the right side of the pcftern (the tops of the holly leaves) iri Ihe same manner as you cul the left side. {The tape will hold the pieces in place while you cut.)

Turn the painting detail pattern (on page 28) to the reverse side and rub over the detail lines using the side of a soft lead pencil.

Apply a wood sealer to all pieces, smooth using 400-grit sandpaper.

Let dry, and then sand

Trace over the pencil lines using a black, fire-tip felt pen. Note: If, during the painting process, some of the block lines get covered over, simply trace back over them with the pen again once the paint is dry.

Paint all the main parts of the snowman, the leaves, four holly berries, three buttons, and the nose using the paint

Place a piece of sandpaper on a hard, flat surfcce. Sand down a small portion of the 1 /4"-Dia. wooden balls to create a flat side on each one.

After sanding, insert straight pins info the flat sides to make it easier to hold the balls while painting them.

Tape the detail pattern to the bank, pattern-side up, and trace over the detail lines using the soft lead pencil, transferring the pattern lines to the wood. Do NOT transfer the face details yet. (PS....check out poor snowman's eyes in the photo: at this point, his eyes were crossed. Good thing I noticed that when it came time to paint them end changed the pattern accordingly!)
