The best approach is to glue or hold the parts together with clamps and drill down through the top for angled dowels near the ends, with perhaps one or two vertical dowels in between (Fig. 4B). The angled dowels, when sawed off flush, will show as slight ovals of end grain on the surface which some woodworkers may find visually objectionable, in which case the blind version should be used.
