There are as many styles and types of linenfold carving as ihere are carvers who practice this traditional technique. Tlie plainfold carving our step-bv-stcp illustrations show is but one style. Two other types are the reverse fold (bottom photo), which is basically just a reverse of the plainfold carving, and the exaggerated V-fold (top photo). Once you are familiar with the technique of undercutting to create the illusion of depth, you'll find that it's even easy to come up with your own linenfold carvings, jusl by studying the way a draped clolh or linen hangs. Just make a pattern, then use Ihe same basic steps as are detailed here lo carve the folds.
