Schools Get Laguna Tools

Ten schools across the country are revving up new power tools in their shop classes this year, due to a Laguna Tools competition. In conjunction with the company's 20th anniversary, the California-based power tool manufacturer announced at this

summer's International Woodworking Fair that Cedar Ridge High School of Hillsborough, North Carolina, was the first prize winner based on the furniture samples its students submitted.

The Cedar Ridge woodworking students, under the supervision of

teacher Keith Yow, entered photos of the furniture they had built out of wood — as well as details on the materials, tools and techniques. In reward for the

skill levels demonstrated by these students, each of whom is involved in the entire process of making each piece, their school received a Laguna LT16 HD band saw, a four-station workbench, a 16" Knapp jointer/planer and the school's choice of a wide belt sander or a panel saw.

Other schools'in Washington, California, Massachusetts, Maine, Texas, Wisconsin, Colorado, Idaho and New Jersey received additional tools through the contest or through their demonstrated need for woodworking equipment @
