Finger Saving Push Block

For pushing heavy stock through a saw or jointer, I find that a rubber float (used for applying grout) works best They cost less than $5, last indefinitely and are available at any building or home repair center.

Chalk to the Rescue

When working on dark, laminated shelving, I had trouble seeing the layout lines. The solution was simple: I just rubbed white chalk into the scribed lines and then wiped the surface. When I wiped off the excess chalk, the cut lines became highly visible.

Artful Stripping

I strip a lot of furniture and have found table legs and small turned pieces a messy chore. My solution was to cap several lengths of plastic pipe of various diameters, pour stripper into them and immerse the parts. The stripper doesn't evaporate, even if I leave the parts in overnight. They usually come out clean enough, but I can always repeat the process if necessary.
