Woodworker

Reader Russ Veinot would like us to mention in our tool reviews whether an item is American-made or not.

Born in the U.S.A.?

I have been an avid reader and woodworker for a long time. Whenever you do a tool review, you never seem to mention whether or not the item is "American-made." In my shop, I try to always buy American. Especially in these times, I think it is important that we all try to buy "American-made" when possible. Buying "American-made" products creates jobs for Americans.

touch-up gun I find the minimum airflow required is more than the pancake Porter-Cable 6 gallon compressor which puts out 3.75 SCFM at 40 psi. What are the specs for "the smallest shop compressor" you mention in your answer? Also, I would appreciate knowing the manufacturer of the gun.

Very interesting article.

WJ Responds: I meant exactly what you 're talking about: a small pancake compressor. The gun I had in mind, a DeVilbiss EGA, will indeed work nicely with that compressor. The DeVilbiss literature lists maximum pressures allowed but not minimum ones required. I suspect because the minimum pressure needed to move material depends very largely on how thin the material is. Thus, when supplying only 3 psi to the gun, don't be surprised if you can only shoot very thin materials. On the other hand, the same gun provided with more pressure will atomize thicker finishes.
