the curves. Assemble the leg to the foot and cleat with giue and clamps. Once dry, drill Vi in. diameter holes as shown, then apply glue to the cleat pins (parts D) and the foot pins (parts E) and drive into the holes. When dry, trim flush and sand smooth. The project can now be stained and final finished. We used two coats of Minwax's Early American Wood Finish followed by two coats of their Antique Oil Finish. The top is attached to the base (parts A, B, and C) with the table top fasteners (parts I). One end of the fastener is inserted into the slot in part C, the other end is attached to the table top with round-head wood screws. This method permits the top to change in width as the moisture content changes from season to season. The benches are made following the basically the same procedure as was used to make the table. The tenon on each end of the leg (parts AA) measures 1 in, thick by 9Vi in, wide by 1 % in. long, and it fits into a corresponding mortise in the foot (parts BB) and the cleats (part CC). The top (part HH) is attached to the base (parts AA, BB, and CC) with standard 1 in. by 1 in. steel angle stock cut to a length of 10Vi in. Use round-head wood screws to attach. Final sand all surfaces, then apply a stain and final finish to match the table. To complete the project, apply a coat of paste wax to both the benches and the table.
