To help strengthen the two dado joints, we added a half-dozen old-fashioned cut nails (see- Sources) to each joint, first drilling a pilot hole through the side for each nail. There is no need to countersink these nails, as they add lo the antique look of the project. As an option. you can use hardware-store variety finish nails, but they should be countersunk and filled. With the case now assembled. check il for squareness, then set it aside to dry.

Nevt, measure the opening for the ply wood back i D) and cut it to fit. Sand the front and hack surfaces, then use glue and brads to secure it in place.
