On april 10 1957 a giant proton synchrotron was put into operation in the town of Dubna near Moscow, being the most powerful accelerator in the world.

In the picture you see the interior of the chamber, formed by the big ring of the proton synchrotron. Here when the unit is in operation the stream of accelerated particles rushes at colossal speed.

The installation gives protons with energy of 1Q billions electron-volt.
